Celebrating the Life of a true “Man of God”

Daniel D Rodes went home to be with the Lord Jan. 6, 2018 at the age of 79. He was a man of integrity whose leadership gifting left an indelible impression on my life and ministry. He was one of my mentors and imparted much into my life and ministry. I will always appreciate the “Ancient Paths” of righteousness set forth both through doctrine and manner of life by my brother and look forward to a reunion in eternity some day! The message called “Characteristics of a Man of God” is my tribute to the legacy of Daniel D Rodes.

Characteristics of the Man of God

Opening: 1 Tim 6:7-11

Da 6:3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. 4 Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

1. A Man of Prayer (Daniel)

Da 6:10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. 11 Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.

2. A Man committed to the Kingdom of Heaven (Apostle Paul)

Mt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

1Ti 1:12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

3. A Man of Righteousness (Noah)

Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

2Pe 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

4. A Man of Courage (Joshua)

Jos 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. 9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

5. A Man of Resolve (Nehemiah)

1Co 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

6. A Man of Humility (Moses)

1Pe 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

7. A Man of Generosity (Cornelious)

Ac 10:1 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, 2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

May God cause his face to shine upon you in 2018!

May God cause his face to shine upon you in 2018!

Maintaining your Spiritual Hunger

According to the verses below our spiritual hunger level is of utmost importance. Our lack of spiritual hunger brings a woe unto us and it should be of great concern when we no longer yearn for the things of God!

Lu 6:21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.

Lu 6:25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

Mt 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled

1. What is a hunger for spiritual things of God?

According to the Psalmist, a desire for God is what caused him to “rise early” to seek the Lord. In other words, we will know what our spiritual hunger level is like by what we make a priority in our lives!

Ps 63:1 David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

Ps 143:6 I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land.

2. Benefits of having a hunger for God

Even though the promises of God are “yea and amen” they are not unconditional! Some of the greatest promises (including the Holy Spirit infilling and outpouring) are conditional upon our level of spiritual desire. There are laws against how much we may desire the things of the world and the flesh but there is no limit to our godly desires!

Ps 81:10 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

Joh 7:37  In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

3. Hunger is a gift of God that comes by a work of the Spirit

How do we activate a greater level of hunger in our spiritual lives? Even though hunger is a choice, it’s also difficult to just drum it up. If you find yourself lacking in spiritual desires begin to seek the Lord. You may have to repent of the lack of spiritual desires. Just as fasting in the natural will cause your flesh to hunger we can also refrain from being full of the distractions of the world so God can restore spiritual hunger.

Hunger for God and a disciplined spiritual life goes hand in hand! If your spiritual life is undisciplined you will struggle with a lack of spiritual desire. So hunger is a choice and it comes to the disciplined person but it’s also a work of the spirit within us. Let’s team up and cooperate with the great Holy Ghost and let hunger for the things of God be restored!

Jer 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Jer 24:7 And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

Ps 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Closing: Influenced by Association

Hanging around hungry people will make you hungry. Let your desire for the things of God produce a spiritual desire in those around you!

Pr 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

Things to Teach Your Children

Things to Teach Your Children

The father’s call to be a watchman: Eze 33:6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.

The father’s call to be a spiritual leader: Ge 18:19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

The mother’s call to be a “Keeper of the home” Tit 2:4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

The mother’s call to “Guide the home”1Ti 5:14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

Our Heavenly Father’s example as a Father to us, He: chastens his children, disciples his children, equips his children, affirms his children

Eph 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

1. Teach your Children Obedience

Col 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

Tit 3:1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

Heb 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

2Th 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

2. Teach your Children to deny ungodliness

Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

3. Teach your Children to have a mind to suffer

1Pe 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

4. Teach your Children Expectation

(What is expected of them and what they can expect from God!)

Mic 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

De 10:12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

1Th 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

2Th 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.
