Generational Gaps

Psalms 78:4 We will not hide them from their children, showing to the generation to come to the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and the wonderful works that he hath done.

There are a number of generations on the scene today and the divide between the different generations are greater than ever before in history. This is not the heart of God and he clearly states in his word his desire for the previous generation to hand the baton of the gospel and his ways to the next generations. Here are some of the generations alive in America today.

  • The Silent Generation: Born 1928-1945 (73-90 years old)
  • Baby Boomers: Born 1946-1964 (54-72 years old)
  • Generation X: Born 1965-1980 (38-53 years old)
  • Millennials: Born 1981-1996 (22-37 years old)
  • Post-Millennials: Born 1997-Present (0-21 years old)

The difference between the Silent Generation and the Millennials is almost mind-boggling as far as their varying world views on morals, debt, politics, religion, and many other things. Scripture is not silent on this subject. The Apostle Paul as he prophetically looked down through history describes the moral demise that takes place in the end-time generations.

2Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

As scripture describes the end-time generations it does not limit this demise to the world but verse 5 clearly identifies the powerless church as part of the problem. The enemy of our souls has a strategy to undermine the influence of one generation to the next to try to destroy the plan of God to maintain moral integrity through impartation from one generation to the next.

I want to leave you with some good news. God still has a plan to raise up a godly remnant seed in the latter days that he will pour his Spirit upon as described in Joel and the book of Acts! However, that plan involves impartation from one generation to the next! From godly parents to their children. From spiritual fathers and mothers to their spiritual seed.
